BLACKSTONE

Blackstone Automotive in Dandenong South inspects and repairs engine cooling systems: radiators, hoses, water pumps, thermostats, fans and leaks.

Signs of a cooling problem

The temperature gauge rises, a warning light comes on, coolant needs regular topping up, there's a sweet smell or steam from the engine bay, or coloured fluid under the car. If the engine overheats, stop when it's safe and turn it off: driving on can cause expensive damage.

What we check

Coolant level and condition, pressure-testing for leaks, hoses and clamps, the radiator and cap, the water pump, the thermostat and the cooling fans.

What happens next

We explain the cause and the options, and quote before any repair. Nothing extra is done without your approval.

What affects the cost

Where the leak or fault is, which parts need replacing, and how much access the job needs on your particular engine.

Questions about cooling system

Can I keep driving if the temperature gauge is high?

It's safer not to. Stop when it's safe, turn the engine off and let it cool. Continuing to drive an overheating engine can damage it badly.

Is topping up coolant enough?

Only as a short-term measure. If the level keeps dropping there's a leak or another fault, and it's worth finding before it becomes a bigger repair.

How often should coolant be changed?

It depends on your vehicle. Your logbook or owner's manual lists the interval, and we follow it during servicing.
